Ever since artists have used strategies of imitation, adaptation and fictionalisation to adopt scientific protocols and their modes of visualisation, science and philosophy have become a matter of reflection and critique in contemporary art. However, according an epistemological status to artistic knowledge production itself means to challenge the fundamental differences between art, philosophy and science. The determination of art is constituted by an aesthetic logic, differentiating art from non-aesthetic phenomena. Aesthetic experience does not relate directly to propositional understanding. It rather leaves thinking open to an infinite process of indeterminacy. Even though in the light of artistic research in contemporary art, there remains a fundamental gap between the „truth procedures“ (Badiou) of art, philosophy and science.
